WOONSOCKET — Two Woonsocket High School boys were charged with motor vehicle theft after they allegedly gave themselves a ride to school Tuesday in a stolen car.
The youths, 15 and 16 years old, were arrested in school shortly before noon, police said. The arrests came after after police broadcast an alert at 7:44 a.m. that a car had just been stolen from Burnside Avenue. The green Dodge Status belonged to Frederick W. Deming. Patrolman John E. Raymond, the resource officer at Woonsocket High, found the vehicle parked in the lot of the Cass Avenue school after he heard the report. The car was locked and unoccupied. After questioning a number of students, Raymond identified two students he believed had arrived in the vehicle, including a neighbor of Deming. One of the students was later located in class, while the other was in the in-house suspension room, with the keys to Deming's car in his pocket. The boys were taken to police headquarters and booked on the felony charges, which will be heard in Family Court. |
