RICHFIELD, Minn. --- Mount St. Charles Academy suffered its first loss of the season to the fifth-ranked team in Minnesota on Friday night. The Academy of Holy Angels, thanks to a hat trick from Eric Matson, came away with a 4-2 triumph over the Mounties that dropped their record to 8-1, but still left a smile on the face of assistant coach Dave Belisle. “We’re very, very pleased,” he said. “We played a great game and we played three solid periods. We didn’t get the win, but we got to play good up-and-down hockey with a very good team.” Kyle Beauchamp and Tim Doyle netted the Mounties’ goal. Beauchamp’s goal at 6:45 knotted the score at 1-1, and Doyle’s score midway through the second made it a 2-2 game. But Matson netted the eventual game-winner with 3:05 to play in the second period, and he later iced the victory with an empty net goal with 10 seconds left in the game. The Mounties outshot their hosts by a 32-28 count and received a handful of superb saves from netminder Jason SanAntonio. MSC will return to action tonight in a 7 p.m. EST showdown against one of Minnesota’s premier prep schools in Shattuck/St. Mary’s.
