WOONSOCKET —  A Providence County grand jury on Friday indicted a city man for arson in connection with an incident at the Walnut Hill Apartment complex on Diamond Hill Road last year. Everett Massotti, 32, of 2029 Diamond Hill Road, knowingly set fire to the same building in which his apartment is located while other people were inside, the attorney general said in a press statement. Massotti will be arraigned on one count of first-degree arson in Superior Court on Feb. 25.
Police said Massotti was arrested on Nov. 12, after witnesses reported a fire in the hallway of 2029 Diamond Hill Road. Massotti's apartment was one of 10 units clustered in the same building located at that address, police said.
No one was injured in the fire, which tenants put out with an extinguisher. When police and firefighters arrived, Massotti was outside the building arguing with other tenants.
Witnesses told police they had seen Massotti set fire to a piece of fabric in a common hallway and then leave the building. One witness told police Massotti had made threats to burn the building down a week earlier.
