WOONSOCKET — A Celebration of Life to benefit the one-year-old son of Michelle (Dufresne) Leclerc, who recently lost her battle with breast cancer, will be held Sunday, March 8, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Chan’s Fine Dining, 267 Main St.
Leclerc was a member of the Woonsocket High School graduate Class of 1992; a 2003 graduate of the Community College of Rhode Island’s school of nursing, and a communicant of St. Agatha’s Church. Tickets cost $20 each, with children 15 and younger admitted free. The price includes admission and entertainment. Food and alcohol will be available for purchase separately. The event will feature live music, raffles, and a silent auction of work by Rhode Island artists. The entertainment lineup is as follows: Anna’s House, a Providence-based husband and wife original acoustic act, will perform from 4:45-5:45 p.m. The duo features Justin Capaldi on acoustic guitar and Kristen Falso on vocals. The couple writes and performs modern folk music in the style of Dar Williams, The Weepies and Simon and Garfunkel. Their first CD, “The Distant Sun and the Attic Dreamer” (2003) is available on CDbaby or itunes. They are currently at work on their second CD, and perform monthly at The Oak Hill Tavern in North Kingstown. Heather Rose will perform from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. She has won four Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll Awards, including Best Female Vocalist and Best Song: “Here Again,” a duet with Tonya Donnely from Belly and Throwing Muses. She plays in a variety of musical styles, from rock anthems, to slower pop ballads and country-twanged ditties. She also writes for Get magazine. The Chelsy Lau Band performs from 7 to 9 p.m. A native of Providence, Lau began playing piano at a young age and was writing music before her teenage years. The singer/songwriter cites the music of her parents - Bessie Smith, Pink Floyd, Cat Stevens, and Janice Joplin – as well as contemporary artist Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails among her influences. Lau contrasts the soothing sounds of her piano with melodic yet powerful vocals, and retains an extensive collection of original material. DJ Paul Payeur from Soundstream will provide music around the live sets. The raffle items include “You Must Be This Tall” Rocky Point Park commemorative movie and T-shirt, a specially designed family scrapbook by Rachel Lesko, a portrait session with Green Imaging Photo and Video, a haircut with Nancy Maney at the Victorian Rose on Park Avenue, a handmade quilt, a $25 gift certificate to River Falls Restaurant and Lounge on South Main Street, one month of free lessons at Rondeau’s Kickboxing, and wine baskets. The keynote speaker will be Susan Gemma, a founding member of The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. The committee is still accepting donations of decorations (preferably pink, the color of breast cancer awareness), artwork for the silent auction and raffle items, including gift baskets or donations of goods or services from area businesses. The committee also is asking friends of the Dufresne/Leclerc families to contribute photos toward the creation of a montage.
