TIVERTON – One tough inning on Thursday proved to be the difference as No. 21 seed Woonsocket High was eliminated from the postseason, courtesy of a 6-5 setback to 11th-seed Tiverton in a losers’ bracket tilt of the Division I, Region 4 State Tournament.
Trailing by a score of 5-2, the Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the triumph.
“It was a well-played game except for one inning,” said WHS head coach John Marsella. “Our kids played tough. I was very proud of them.”
Woonsocket finished out the season with nine wins in Division I.

LINCOLN – Lincoln saw its strong season come to a quick close on Thursday.
Jeff Winters came just two outs from a no-hitter, yielding just one hit and striking out six as 19th-seeded East Greenwich blanked the 11th-seeded Lions, 4-0, in a elimination, losers’ bracket game of the Division I, Region 3 State Tournament at Chet Nichols Field.

Smithfield stays alive
SMITHFIELD --- Joe Landi’s excellent three-hitter on the mound and Ryan Slattery’s three RBIs at the plate were the highlights to Smithfield High’s 4-1 triumph over visiting West Warwick High on Thursday afternoon in their Division I Region IV losers’ bracket affair.
Landi struck out six batters and walked one for the Sentinels, and Slattery had a RBI single in the first inning and a two-run base hit in the third.
