WOONSOCKET — A 2-year-old boy was injured when he fell from the second story of 21 Paradis Ave. onto a sidewalk Thursday morning, police said.
The incident was reported about 8:30 a.m. after the boy’s mother found him lying on the concrete walk, according to Detective Lt. Eugene Jalette, spokesman for the police. The boy was alert and sobbing, said Jalette, and his face was visibly swollen and bleeding. Police later learned from Hasbro Children’s Hospital, where the tot was taken by rescue, that he had also suffered a broken wrist, but doctors ruled out serious head injuries. Jalette said the boy was listed in good condition hours after the accident, but he was to remain at the hospital overnight for observation. Detectives are still trying to determine whether the boy fell from a window of his apartment or slipped between the railings of a porch, according to Jalette. “Nobody saw him fall so it’s unclear where he fell from,” he said. “The mother thinks it was the window but he could have made it out on the porch, too.” The boy’s mother was in the bathroom when the boy fell, Jalette said. She heard the boy crying moments later and located him on the sidewalk. The state Department for Children, Youth and Families was notified of the accident, Jalette said. |
