BELLINGHAM — A Franklin man was sentenced to at least 3 ½ years in prison on Thursday for attacking his estranged wife’s boyfriend with a homemade rubber mallet.

Mark D’Valentine, 50, of Franklin, admitted Thursday in Worcester Superior Court to breaking into a home on Douglas Drive in Bellingham this past August.
D’Valentine admitted entering the home during the dawn hours wearing a mask and attacking the sleeping male resident with a homemade mallet. After hitting the male victim, D’Valentine poured a bleach gel mixture into his victim’s eye.
The Franklin resident also struggled with two neighbors outside the victim’s house as he attempted to flee the scene. One neighbor was struck in the nose, while another neighbor, a senior citizen, was hit with a screwdriver.
Police later found that D’Valentine had a “to-do” list for the attack. Police recovered the following from the crime scene: plastic gloves, a plastic grocery bag with holes cut into it, a sandwich bag filled with small screws, a clear plastic squirt bottle with bluish-green liquid in it, duct tape and rope.
D’Valentine pleaded guilty Thursday in Worcester Superior Court to two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to serve 3 ½ to five years in prison for those charges.
The Franklin resident and father of two also pleaded guilty Thursday to the following: armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery on a person over 60, home invasion, mayhem, assault and battery and armed burglary. He will serve five years probation for those charges.
D’Valentine, who was previously employed as a mechanical engineer, was also ordered to stay away from the victims, wear a global positioning monitor for two years and undergo a mental health evaluation.
