WOONSOCKET- Hilde "Oma" Higglesden, 88, passed away, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Karl Theo Jehl.
Born on August 28, 1925 in Dorfmark, Germany. Daughter of Alma and Otto Eggers.
During WWII Hilde was a Radar Technician after losing her husband at the age of 29 she became a protective force of her four children. She worked tireless hours to provide shelter and food. She loved growing a garden to provide food, reading and was very out spoken in politics. She enjoyed word puzzles and traveling. She retired form retail at the age of 62. She traveled and visited her family in Rhode Island and enjoyed New England beaches and loved to watch the boats to return to Galilee Beach. She finally moved to Woonsocket in 2008 due to her illness.
She is survived by a brother Sigmund Eggers of Germany she will be missed by her four children Hans-Juergen Jehl and wife Ute, Guenter Jehl and wife Roswitha, Ulrike Ledoux and husband Lou with whom she resided and Gisela Long and husband Jack. She will be missed by her eight grandchildren Juergen, Daniel, Sandra, Christopher living in Germany, Jessica, Vanessa, Heidi and Simon living in the U.S. 10 Great Grandchildren Maximillian, Melina, Paul, Michel, Niklas, Anton living in Germany also Benjamin, Jack, Joshua and Emilio in the U.S.
She was preceded in death by her brother Guenter Eggers,
Her Funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers please donate to Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island and or Woonsocket Senior Center.
Hilde will return to her home and be buried in the family plot in Aschaffenburg, Germany.
Olson and Parent Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements
