SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Welcome to the Ryan Center, where the Friars and Rams will renew their college hoops rivalry at 8 p.m. Game will be shown on CBS College Sports (click here for the story that ran in today’s paper regarding that: http://pawtuckettimes.com/content/national-spotlight-shines-tonights-pc-...

A few pregame notes to pass along:
***
Rhody head coach Dan Hurley will not have Mike Powell available Thursday, as it was announced that the junior guard was suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules. Powell has appeared in all nine games for the Rams (seven starts). He’s averaging 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 15 minutes.

Conversely, the hope is that Rams will have the services Mike Aaman. How much the sophomore forward provides against a rugged PC frontline could prove crucial. Aaman has sat out the last four games after having an appendectomy when Rhody was out in Arizona 2 ½ weeks ago.

Gilvydas Biruta is certainly stranger to the Friars. The URI junior went up against PC three times during his two-year stint at Rutgers.
Here are Biruta’s totals against Providence:
Jan. 8, 2011: 13 points, 7 rebounds
Jan. 5, 2011: 21 points, 6 rebounds
Feb. 1, 2012: 13 points, 11 rebounds

Depending on who you believe, tonight is the 124th meeting between the Friars and Rams (that’s what PC believes). Conversely, the Rams are saying the two schools are meeting for the 126th time.
