NAPLES, FL- Raymond A. Smith, 88, of Pine Isle Lane, Naples, died November 29, 2013 at home. He was the husband of Sylvia (Hanczaryk) Smith whom he married May 29, 1949.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Eila (Broadhead) Smith-Rawcliffe. He lived in Cumberland for thirty-two years prior to moving to Naples in 1988.
A WWII Navy Veteran, Mr. Smith began his career in banking in 1951 as a Teller for the former Woonsocket Institution for Savings and retired as a Vice President and Branch Administrator for the former Eastland Bank in 1984. He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School, a graduate of the former Hill College and a 1966 graduate of Brown University, receiving a Ph. T from its school of Savings and Banking. Raymond was a former president of the Cumberland Kiwanis Club, a former member of the Woonsocket Jaycees and a former member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Cumberland.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bruce Smith and his wife Melanie of Dallas, TX and Brian Smith and his wife Michele of Cumberland, three grandchildren, Katharine and Andrew Smith and Elizabeth Hannon and two great granddaughters, Lyla and Lacey Hannon.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2013, beginning with visitation at 10AM, followed by a service at 11AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105 or to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
