BLACKSTONE- Richard R. Berard, 79, of Blackstone, MA passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Landmark Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband for 57 years of Madeleine M. (Dalpe) Berard.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on March 21, 1934, he was the son of the late Francois and Marie Anne (Bibeault) Berard.
He was the loving father of Roger R. Berard of No. Smithfield, RI, Michael J. Berard and his wife, Bonnie of No. Smithfield, RI, Scott F. Berard and his wife, Nicole of Olalla, WA, Donna M. Dubois and Michael Vadenais of Glocester, RI, and Linda A. Gatewood of Narragansett, RI. He leaves his cherished seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was the brother of the late Robert and Rene Berard, Theresa Minchillo, Rhea Riopel, Beatrice Del Signore, and Simone Florio.
A resident of Blackstone for 57 years formerly of Woonsocket, Richard worked as a testman for over 20 years at Raytheon in Walpole until retiring. He also was a carpenter and mechanic for many years.
He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War attaining the rank of Sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation of Austria, and served in the Air National Guard for two years.
He was a communicant of St. Theresa Church. Richard was an avid motorcycle rider. Devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed.
Funeral will be held on Monday, December 9th at 11:00AM from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon at St. Theresa Church, 630 Rathbun St., Blackstone, MA. Interment will follow at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are on Sunday, December 8th from 4 to 8PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
