Mount St. Charles suffers shootout loss in opening game of MSC Holiday Face-Off Tournament

December 26, 2013

WOONSOCKET — Mount St. Charles sustained an early ouster from capturing its own MSC Holiday Face-Off Tournament championship on Thursday night following a stunningly-exciting 3-2 double-shootout loss to St. Joseph Collegiate Institute of New York at Adelard Arena.
After a pair of seven-minute, 30-second overtime sessions, the foes faced off in a second shootout, and St. Joe’s mustered four goals to the Mounties’ two.
The visitors took advantage of goals by Harlan LoVullo, James Bassett, Nick Zenger and Justin Crawford, with the eventual clincher awarded to Zenger.
MSC’s tallies in that session went to Marc Squizzero and Justin D’Abrosca.
Mount held a 1-0 cushion at the end of the first period on a Squizzero tally, but Dom Perna knotted it in the second before Squizzero’s power-play goal, on feeds from Devin Votta and Billy Burns just 1:06 into the third, gave the hosts a 2-1 cushion.
St. Joe’s, however, answered when Bryce Donovan knocked in another man-advantage tally with 4:11 remaining in regulation.
In Thursday’s other games, Bishop Hendricken posted a 4-3 victory over Fairfield (Conn.) Prep, Bishop Guertin, N.H. was a 4-0 winner over La Salle College High of Penn., and La Salle Academy defeated Franklin (Mass.) High, 1-0.
Today’s schedule will feature Fairfield Prep vs. Frankin at 2 p.m. and Mount vs. La Salle College High at 4 p.m. in the consolation games, and Bishop Hendricken vs. La Salle Academy at 6 p.m. and Bishop Guertin vs. St. Joe’s at 8 in the semifinal-round games.
