WOONSOCKET — A long-unused building at 754 Front St. was heavily damaged by fire Friday evening.

The fire was called in at about 9 p.m. Friday and took about 20 minutes for local firefighting personnel to contain, city Deputy Fire Chief Paul Russell said Saturday.

No injuries were reported.

The fire caused moderate to severe damage to the exterior of the building, and moderate damage to the interior, Russell said, adding that its cause is under investigation by the R.I. Fire Marshal’s Office.

The building, which formerly housed a Chinese buffet restaurant, sits at a triangular corner with Transit Street, at a four-way intersection that also includes Globe Street.

Renovations had been taking place in the building, but no activity has been observed there in about a year and a half, said Russell, adding that his department does not know its current owner.
