Slatersville Village, big rigs don’t mix, claims Newberry

NORTH SMITHFIELD — The days of heavy truck traffic in the heart of historic Slatersville Village could be coming to an end.

Acting on a local resolution passed by the North Smithfield Town Council last year, House Minority Leader Brian C. Newberry (R-Dist. 48 North Smithfield, Burrillville) introduced a bill Wednesday that would prohibit heavy trucks and tractor-trailers from traveling in and around the area surrounding the North Smithfield Town Hall. That area, according to town officials, has seen its share of accidents involving bigger trucks attempting to navigate the narrow village streets.
