WOONSOCKET- Joanne M. Chubka, 95, resident of the Ballou Home in Woonsocket, passed away on January 11, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 31, 1918 in West Warwick RI, the daughter of the late Antonio & Filomena (Pinardi) Castaldi. She was the former wife of the late Michael Chubka.
When Joanne was a young lady she was given the nickname Dinah, which she was called all her life by her family and close friends.
She was primarily a home maker, caring for her husband and two daughters, but she did work in the Woonsocket School lunch program for several years before retiring in 1980. She was a great cook, liked traveling especially to Georgia, the casinos, watching old classic movies, and doing word search puzzles. In her younger years, Joanne enjoyed going dancing on Saturday nights, but most of all, she loved being at family gatherings; laughing, eating, and having an occasional cocktail or two.
Joanne was the loving mother of Sandra Caswell and her husband Neil of Millville, MA, and Merlene Dupre of Douglasville, GA. She leaves her grandchildren of whom she was so proud, Lisa Diaz-Alvarez and her husband Rafael of Goffstown, NH, Sean Dupre of Alpharetta, GA, and Stephanie Dupre of Hiram, GA. She is also survived by a brother Joseph Ferrenti of Ontario, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Joanne was the sister of the late Genevieve "Jennie" Picchioni, Elavera "Louise" Cote, Rose Vaznain, Amelia "Minnie" Nardolillo, Antoinette "Toni" Losardo, Domenico "Dominic" Castaldi, and Victor "Vic" Ferrenti.
Joanne's family would like to thank the entire staff of Ballou Home for the love, care and compassion they had shown to her, especially her "GIRLS".
Her funeral will be held Thursday at 9am from the Egidio DiPardo & Sons Funeral Home 75 Harris Ave., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Anthony's Church Greene St., Woonsocket. Burial will be held privately. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5pm until 8pm.
