Chamber president encouraged by governor’s budget proposals

LINCOLN – Gov. Lincoln Chafee’s budget proposal to lower the state’s corporate tax rate by a third – from the current 9 percent to 6 percent – if Congress allows states to start collecting sales tax on online purchases was enough to put a smile on the face of Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce President John Gregory.

In fact, what Chafee proposes “is a little more aggressive” than even the business community’s. “We thought of reducing it from 9 (percent) to 7 (percent), he did 9 to 6.
