In the early 1960s, Rev. Sammy C. Vaughan was a young seaman in the Navy when Dr. Martin Luther King marched on Washington and organized his nonviolent protests in Alabama at the height of the American Civil Rights Movement.
While Vaughan was unable to directly participate in those campaigns of civil resistance, he understood what was at stake and remembers vividly the sense of awe he felt for King and his nonviolent protests against racial segregation and economic injustice.
