WOONSOCKET – Police said they have one person in custody after a shooting incident on Saturday morning in the city.
According to a press release, police responded to a complaint that Damaso Hernandez Sr., 43, had fired shots at an unidentified victim’s vehicle as he left Hernandez’s residence at 4:52 a.m. Upon arrival police officers attempted to make contact with Hernandez who refused to exit the house. After a brief negotiation with Hernandez he appeared in the doorway of the residence. He then attempted to slam the door on police who were able to block the door and grab Hernandez by the
arms, police said.
A brief struggle ensued inside the house; however, Hernandez was
taken into custody without injury to Hernandez or any police officers on scene, police reported.
During a search of the residence police officers said they located a shotgun, a 9mm Ruger handgun, and AR-15 rifle. All the weapons were loaded and were seized by police as part of the investigation. Police also seized a musket-style gun, a sword, a pellet gun and a buck knife.
Hernandez Sr. is being charged with two counts of domestic felony assault with a weapon, firing a weapon in a compact area, resisting
arrest, and obstruction of justice.
