Mayor opposes paying legal fees

WOONSOCKET – In a move that was part protest, part policy statement, Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt and City Council President Albert Brien on Monday refused to go along with other members of the Budget Commission in approving the payment of $168,284 worth of legal bills, most of it to a single firm.
Despite their opposition, however, the bills will still be paid because the majority of the five-member commission approved the payments, which include more than $150,000 to the firm Whelan Kinder & Siket. All of its bills were for work associated with the five-year cost-cutting plan designed to eliminate budget deficits. Read the full story in Wednesday's newspaper.
