Lawrence R. Fine
WOONSOCKET- Lawrence "Larry" R. Fine, 62, of Cottage St., died suddenly and unexpectedly of a presumed cardiac event on January 28, 2014, in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, RI. He was the loving and beloved husband of Karen A. (Christiansen) Fine, whom he married April 16, 1994.
Born in Framingham, MA, he was the son of Ernest (Sue) Fine of San Diego, CA, and Freda Schafer Fine of Bethlehem, PA.
Larry served for more than 25 years as a Special Education Teacher and Program Director for Bi-County Collaborative, Franklin, MA, positions from which he retired in November, 2011. A graduate of Framingham North High School, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Fitchburg State University, and a Master's Degree in Special Education from Framingham State University. Larry later earned his certification in Special Education Administration.
Larry was a gifted and caring teacher who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with friends, and sharing with young people his knowledge, hobbies and love of the outdoors. An avid fly fisherman, hunter, and horseman, Larry was a Certified NRA Pistol Instructor. He was also a loyal Red Sox fan, and enjoyed the slapstick comedy antics of The Three Stooges. Larry also enjoyed participating in trail competition and team penning events with his horse Buddy at Mayer's Farm.
In addition to his wife and parents, Larry is survived by a brother, Stuart (Sandra) Fine of Horsham, PA and a sister, Robyn (Joseph) Gross of Nazareth, PA. Other family members include brothers- and sisters-in-law Steven (Patricia) Christiansen and Nancy (Scott) Kell, as well as a grand-niece, niece, numerous nephews and cousins. Larry was preceded in death by Karen's parents, Ted and Connie Christiansen.
Friends are invited to gather for a celebration of Larry's life, which will occur Monday, February 3, 2014, from 2:30 - 6:30 PM at the Coachmen's Lodge, 273 Wrentham Rd., Bellingham, MA. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, RI. Burial is being arranged at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Larry's memory may please be made to Autism Speaks or The National Psoriasis Foundation.
