Locks of Love donors still needed for Nov. 17 event

November 13, 2010

LINCOLN --- Officials with the William M. Davies Jr. Career & Technical High School are looking for volunteers to donate their hair to the “Locks of Love” event scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 17.
Free haircuts will be given to all individuals who have a minimum of 10 inches of hair to donate, and those haircuts will be given in the Cosmetology Salon at Davies between 8:30 a.m.-noon.
“Locks of Love” is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially-disadvantaged children under age 18 who suffer from long-term medical hair loss. They meet a unique need for children by using the donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics.
The prosthesis helps restore the children's self-esteem and self-confidence as they overcome their health concerns.
Davies High and its Cosmetology Program encourage all individuals who meet the necessary hair length guidelines of at least 10 inches to volunteer for this free haircut – and most noble cause. All donated hair will be sent to the “Locks of Love” organization, along with the names of the those who participated in the event.
Those interested must call (401) 728-1500 (ext. 242) to schedule an appointment to have their haircut. For more information, contact Carmina Moretti, the Davies' Cosmetology Instructor, at the aforementioned number. In addition, more information about “Locks of Love” may be found at www.locksoflove.org.
