Blackstone gears up for election

February 18, 2014

BLACKSTONE — Election season in Blackstone is officially underway.
The deadline to return nomination papers with the signatures of at least 50 registered voters was Tuesday.

The annual town election will take place Monday, April 7.

Two three-year seats on the Board of Selectmen held by incumbents Paul Haughey and Margaret Bik are up for grabs in the election. Haughey is not seeking re-election and Bik, who has publicly announced her decision seek re-election, has returned papers.

Other candidates for selectmen returning nomination papers by Tuesday’s deadline were Russell Wells, a former member of the Finance Committee; Russell Arnold, a former member of the Blackstone-Millville Regional School Committee; and newcomer Michael Ando. That means there will be a four-way contest for two seats on the Board of Selectmen in April, unless someone decides to withdraw papers before March 5.
