CUMBERLAND – It’s been a good stretch for Cumberland High, one that has the Clippers on the brink of postseason participation.
The latest step took place Friday night against neighboring school Lincoln as Cumberland survived a double overtime affair, 64-61. Now 8-9 in Division II-North and winners of three of their last four, the Clippers close out the regular season next Tuesday at home against division rival North Providence.
For the longest time Friday night, it appeared Gary Reedy’s bunch would be staring in the face of a must-win situation against the Cougars. Lincoln (2-15, Division II-North jumped all over Cumberland early and led by 10 points with 3:07 remaining in regulation. Instead of waiving the white flag, the Clippers dug in on the defensive end and came up with a few timely makes from the field.
None was bigger than the 25-footer that junior Tyler Calabro kissed off the glass with three seconds left in regulation and Cumberland down 55-52.
