WOONSOCKET – The public has been invited to remember George Nasuti’s many contributions this Saturday at Woonsocket High’s Saravia Gymnasium beginning at 2 p.m.

“It’s going to be a celebration of life,” said Carnell Henderson, Woonsocket’s head football coach and for now the primary overseer of Villa Novan athletics.

While some of the details pertaining to this open celebration are either still in the process of becoming finalized or remain under wraps until Saturday, Henderson confirmed that there would be a speaking program.

“There will be some speakers giving reflections,” he said. “The actual meat and potatoes are still being put together as we speak.”

The family has created an email address to send photos of Nasuti for use in a possible slideshow on Saturday. The address is nasutipics@yahoo.com and will only be used to accept photos, not to send personal messages to the family.

Those planning to attend are asked to wear maroon and white if possible. Given the volume of people expected to be on hand, carpooling is strongly encouraged. Parking is available in both the WHS faculty lot and the WHS student lot.

Nasuti died two weeks ago after suffering an injury while officiating a youth basketball game in Burrillville. A private ceremony was held Feb. 15 at St. James Baptist Church.

Knowing how beloved and respected the 52-year-old Nasuti was in Woonsocket and around the state, the family wished to honor the outpouring of well wishes and support by staging a gathering in a place where the longtime educator and high-school athletic director spent a great deal of time.

“This allows everyone to pay their respects to the man who impacted so many lives,” Henderson expressed.
