CUMBERLAND- Walter Polucha, 87, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014. He was the husband of Vivian (Picard) Polucha and the late Doris (Maggioli) Polucha.
Born in Blackstone, MA, he was the son of the late Simon and Anna (Wojcik) Polucha.
Mr. Polucha was an army veteran of World War II. He was an insurance agent for various companies for many years before retiring in 1990. Walter's passion was his music. He attended the New England Conservatory of Music, and was an accomplished tenor and conductor of music for the last 60 years. He brought the joy and comfort of his music to many at numerous weddings, funerals, and especially with his holiday performances with the singing group, the Yuletide Carolers.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Craig Polucha and his wife Joyce, of Cumberland; Jeff Polucha and his companion, Paula Keefe of Cumberland; and Glen Polucha of Campton, New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Kate Medeiros, Stephen, Daniel, Kristyn, and Collin Polucha; and one great granddaughter, Olivia, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Landen Polucha and the brother of the late Mary Polucha, Catherine Scherck, Rose Adamski, Stasia Carr, Victoria Filewicz, Albert, Thadeus, Francis, and Charles Polucha.
The funeral will be held Friday, February 28, 2014 at 9am from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-7pm, in the funeral home.
