NORTH SMITHFIELD- Fernando "Fred" Bernardi, 92, resident of North Smithfield RI, formerly of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2014 at the St. Antoine Residence after a long illness.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carmelia (Finelli) Bernardi, with whom he was married for over 67 years.
He was born in Providence RI, the son of the late Alfeo & Gugliema (Simonini) Bernardi.
Fred and Carmelia were the owners & operators of the former Commodore Cleaner's in Woonsocket, for over 30 years. He served on several committees for his beloved parish St. Anthony's Church in Woonsocket. Fred was a United States Coast Guard Veteran serving in WWII. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing with friends.
He is survived by a sister, Annie DiCesare of North Smithfield RI, and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Theresa Lucchesi.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 8:30am from the Egidio DiPardo & Sons Funeral Home 75 Harris Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Anthony's Church Greene St. Woonsocket RI. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery in Blackstone MA. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 8:30 until 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Antoine Residence Hospice Care 10 Rhodes Ave. North Smithfield RI 02895.
