Mayor to address city's fiscal dilemma

March 4, 2014

WOONSOCKET – Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced Tuesday she will share her “findings and thoughts” about the fiscal challenges facing the city next week in her first public address to constituents since taking office.
The speech is scheduled to take place in Harris Hall at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in keeping with an inauguration-night promise to report back to voters after studying the city’s problems for a hundred days. The mayor was sworn in Dec. 3.
"As a new mayor, I thank the people of Woonsocket for being patient with me and my administration over the past 100 days as we became acclimated to the inner working of City Hall and further learned about the economic challenges that we face as a city and community,” the mayor said in a statement.
Baldelli-Hunt said she was “not afforded a formal or orderly transition” by the prior administration and therefore “asked the people to give me 100 days to become familiar with our many pressing issues and opportunities.”
The mayor’s statement was short on specifics that she intends to touch on in the address, but it’s a safe bet the city’s continuing financial struggles will be high on the list.
