NORTH SMITHFIELD- Lorraine F. (Gladu) Roberts, 69, of North Smithfield, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2014, in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center.
Born in Woonsocket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand Gladu, Sr. and Leona (Leboeuf) Gladu.
Lorraine was a 1962 graduate of Bellingham High School and a 1989 graduate of the University of Rhode Island where she majored in English and Speech Communications. She was a medical consultant for Woonsocket Surgical Associates and later Optum, Inc. until her retirement in 2012. Lorraine was communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Slatersville.
She leaves her children, Karen L. "Katie" Williams of Lincoln, Christopher M. Roberts and his wife Megan of Brooklyn, NY and Cynthia A. Roberts and her husband Jon Speaker of No. Smithfield; her brother, Ferdinand "Fred" Gladu, Jr. of Woonsocket; her adoring grandchildren, Jackson Garrison Roberts, Kai Ian Roberts-Speaker and Lola Brae Roberts; her best friends, Andree Levesque and Francis L. Scarpaci; many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Lorraine was a devoted mother, grandmother, and loyal Red Sox fan. She embodied a graciousness that touched all who knew her. A voracious reader, Lorraine enjoyed books from popular and classic literature. She derived simple enjoyment from elements of nature such as flowers, birds, and the ocean. Throughout her lifetime, Lorraine regularly returned to her beloved North Truro, in Outer Cape Cod.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 7 from 5-8 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. Funeral services and burial are private. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute-Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284. The family respectfully requests that no perfumes be worn during the visitation and funeral.
