WOONSOCKET- Salvatore J. Butera, 89, of Rose Ave. ,died, Thursday March 6, 2014 in Landmark Medical Center with his family by his side. He was the husband of Rhea R. (Vachon) Butera. Sal and Rhea celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary on July 4, 2013.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Kendra) Butera.
Mr. Butera was a United States Navy veteran serving in WWII.
He worked as a Resident Engineer Aide in Construction for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, for 23 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Butera was an avid gardener and a devoted Yankee's fan.
Besides his wife Rhea, he is survived by his son, Joseph and his wife Pamela Butera, of Woonsocket, R.I. two sisters, Agnes Russillo, of Cranston, R.I., Geraldine Cunningham, of Ashaway, R.I., two granddaughters, Andrea Henault and Donna Butera, and two great-grandchildren, Salvatore and Ava.
He was the father of the late Beverly Ann Butera and also the brother of the late Mary Monfette, Vincent Butera and Josephine Martin
His funeral will be held on Monday, March 9, 2014 at 10 A.M. form the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Rd. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in Our Lady Queen on Martyrs Church, Park Avenue, Woonsocket. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland, R.I. calling hours are Monday from 9-10 A.M. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the Visiting Nurse Home Care, 6 Blackstone Valley Place, Suite 515, Lincoln, Rhode Island 02865 would be appreciated.
