WOONSOCKET- Mary Gabrielle "Kippy" (Gardella) Roy, 82, of Woonsocket passed away Saturday morning at The Holiday Retirement Home in Manville. She was the wife of the late John M. Roy, Sr. They were married for 50 years.
Born in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Henry W. Gardella Sr. and Rose Alba (Beaudet) Gardella. She was the step-daughter of the late Marie Aurore (Drainville) Gardella. She was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mary attended St. Charles school in Woonsocket and graduated from St. Xavier High School in Providence.
She was employed at Uniroyal for a number of years then as a customer service representative at AT Cross until retiring in 1979.
Kippy was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph's Church, a member and soloist of the parish choir, a member and officer of the St. Joseph Senior Citizens Club and a member of the Memory Lane Bowling League.
Kippy will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother. She cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two sons John "Jack" M. Roy, Jr. and his wife Linda of Johnston, Dennis J. Roy and his wife Lidia of Webster, MA, five daughters Christine M. Gorgone of Lincoln, Priscilla A. Laferte and her husband George of Woonsocket, Joanne R. Lipka and her husband Daniel of Springfield, VA, Elaine M. Cote and her husband Andre of Woonsocket and Sandra J. Laverdiere and her husband Michael of Lincoln. She was the sister of the late Henry W., III, Francis J., George Gardella, Rita M. Perruchini and mother-in-law of the late David J. Gorgone. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Her funeral will be Friday at 9:00 am from the Menard- Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Thursday from 2-4 & 6-9 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Beacon Hospice 1 Catamore Blvd. East Providence, RI. 02914.
