Phaneuf's OT goal evens Mount's state title series with Hendricken at 1-1; Game 3 is slated for Monday

March 15, 2014

PROVIDENCE --- Keith Phaneuf's goal with 31 seconds left in overtime saved Mount St. Charles' season on Saturday night and lifted the Mounties to a thrilling 4-3 victory over rival Bishop Hendricken in the second game of their best-of-three State Championship title series.
The Mounties (17-5) and Hawks (17-3-2) will return to Brown University's Meehan Auditorium on Monday for an 8 p.m. winner-take-all showdown. The Mounties are seeking their second straight title and sixth in the last seven years, while the Hawks are looking for their first since 2012.
The Hawks took a 3-1 lead 6:21 into the final period and appeared headed for a championship, but the Mounties had other ideas.
Forty seconds later, Marc Squizzero made it a one-goal game by firing in a slap shot off a pass from Justin D'Abrosca, and with 2:51 to play in regulation, freshman standout Tim Casilli tied the score.
D'Abrosca, who assisted on Mount's final three goals, netted the game's first goal 8 1/2 minutes into play, but the Hawks scored twice in the final 4:23 of the first period to take a 2-1 lead.
