Student zombies invade downtown Providence

PROVIDENCE – If you happened to notice a bunch of crazed, foaming at the mouth zombies making their way towards Kennedy Plaza late Wednesday afternoon, you might have thought you stumbled onto the set of the latest episode of the Walking Dead.
But these benevolent zombies don’t want to eat your flesh.
They want to kick your butts.
Dozens of high school students made up like zombies to represent the damaging effects caused by smoking, approached members of the public in downtown Providence Wednesday with a simple message: quitting cigarettes will not only improve your health, it will help you live a healthier and longer life.
The stop-smoking stunt was part of Wednesday’s National Kick Butts Day, a day where organizations around the country host events to raise awareness about tobacco issues and advocate against youth tobacco use. More than 1,400 events were held across the nation, including Rhode Island.
