Bank robbery suspect pleads guilty

CUMBERLAND – A local man is facing up to 45 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to robbing two banks in 2012, including a Citizens Bank branch at 70 Mendon Road.
Joseph G. Petrarca, 50, entered the plea this week in U.S. District Court, Providence, U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha said in a statement Thursday.
During an appearance before Chief Judge William E. Smith, Petrarca admitted that he robbed Citizens Bank on Dec. 26, 2012, of $1,764 and that he robbed a Washington Trust Company branch office in Cranston of $9,595 on Jan. 15, 2013.
