WOONSOCKET- Roosevelt Harris, 78, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 in Oakland Grove Health Center with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Lelia (Harmon) Harris.
Born in Newberry, South Carolina, son of the late Lou Walsh and Inez (Spearman) Harris.
Mr. Harris was owner and operator of Harris Home Builders, and also was a construction worker for various construction companies in the area.
He was a Deacon of St. James Baptist Church, and a former member of the men's chorus. He joined the Prince Hall Masonic Fraternity and was 32nd Master Mason. He was a former member of Mt Sanai Consistory #12, Ancient Egyptian Arabic of the Mystic Shrine, Past Master of Corinthian Lodge #6, King Solomon and Past Worthy Patron of Electa Chapter #4 Order of Eastern Star.
He was an avid Bowler, and a devoted family man.
He is survived by his five children, Joyce A. Weston, of Woonsocket, R.I. Lorraine Harris, of Woonsocket, R.I. Roger and his wife Shirlene, of Maryland, Daniel and his wife Cindy of Providence, R.I. and Priscilla Harris of Providence, R.I. Three sibling, Benny and his wife Rose Harris of Woonsocket, R.I. Joseph and his wife Lydia Harris, of Connecticut, Jeannette Taylor of North Carolina, Sister in law Rita Harris of Warwick, R.I. Thirty-two grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
He also was the father of the late Glenn, Warren, Adrien, and Joseph Harris, and brother of the late Mack, William, Henry, David Harris, and Jessie Beatty.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday March 29, 2014 at 11 A.M. in St. James Baptist Church, South Main St. Woonsocket, R.I. Relatives and friends are invited; calling hours are on Saturday from 10 - 11 A.M. in St. James Baptist Church. Burial will follow and will be in Union Cemetery, North Smithfield. The S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Rd. Woonsocket, R.I. 02895 is in charge of the arrangements.
