Northmen battle back to beat Broncos, 7-4

BURRILLVILLE – North Smithfield High seemed rather disinterested in the early going of a Division II-North clash with host Burrillville on Friday afternoon.

After all, head coach Jon Leddy’s unbeaten crew was facing a club that hadn’t won a league contest in three tries this spring. In their collective mind, why would this be any different?

The Broncos, however, assembled a four-run surge with three doubles in a four at-bat span in the back half of the third inning to gain the advantage, though the Northmen responded with four in the top of the fourth to knot it.

In the end, North Smithfield notched a trio of runs in the seventh and held off a minor scare in the bottom half to claim a not-so-pretty 7-4 triumph at Eccleston Field.
