MILLVILLE â€“ For Justin Oâ€™Connell, 2013 was supposed to be The Year.
After years of training, after the struggle just to learn how to walk again, that was the year he was supposed to complete his first marathon â€“ the Boston Marathon.
As he reached Mile 24, just a couple short of the finish line, Oâ€™Connell saw the cell phones come out and people talking in excited, panicky tones. Soon word had spread among the marathoners: Some kind of bombs had exploded near the finish line. Then the fences went up, the race halted.
â€śDisappointed?â€ť recalls Oâ€™Connell. â€śNot really. This was bigger than me. I was worried about the survivors and people dying. I had friends at the finish line. I wanted to know if they were okay.â€ť
