CUMBERLAND- Edgar C. Turcotte, Jr., 78, of Cumberland and Naples, FL, died Saturday Apr. 19, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Gloria S. (Lanowy) Turcotte, whom he married September 12, 1959.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Edgar C. Turcotte, Sr. and Violette (Renaud) Turcotte.
Edgar was a 1952 graduate of Woonsocket High School and a 1956 graduate of Providence College, where he played on their first hockey team. He was a mortgage originator for the Woonsocket Institute for Savings, the Marquette Credit Union and Eastland Bank. Edgar later worked for the R.I. Board of Elections, retiring in 1999. He served as a member of both the Personnel and Planning Boards for the City of Woonsocket. He was also a member of the Jaycee's, the Woonsocket Rotary Club, of which he is a past president, and the RI Hockey Officials Association. Edgar enjoyed golfing, tennis and hockey. He was an avid New England sports fan.
Besides his wife Gloria, he leaves their children, Marc R. Turcotte and his wife Diane of N. Smithfield, Peter M. Turcotte and his wife Susan of Blackstone, MA, and Michelle A. Donovan and her husband James of Coventry; two brothers, Robert Turcotte of Cumberland and Leo Turcotte of Norton, MA; two sisters, Jeannine Savignac of N. Smithfield and Colette Pincince of Cumberland; five grandchildren, Danielle and Nicole Turcotte, Katelyn Donovan and Emily and Brian Turcotte; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Wednesday Apr. 23, 2014 at 10AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 S. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Joseph's Church 1200 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours are Tuesday Apr. 22, 2014 from 5-8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edgar's name to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904, and Passionist Volunteers International, c/o Fr. Lucian Clark, 86-45 Edgerton Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11432.
