PAWTUCKET – Daniel Nava is officially a member of the Pawtucket Red Sox. The struggling outfielder/first baseman joined the Triple-A ranks on what was a busy Friday at McCoy Stadium.

Manager Kevin Boles wasted little time of throwing Nava into the fray, placing the switch hitter in the No. 3 spot in the outfield and in left field. Nava is looking to get back on track after getting off to a .147 start in 17 games for the Red Sox.

“It wasn’t anything I thought about. I don’t read articles or anything … I try to focus on everything on the field,” said Nava when asked if he felt that there was a chance that he would be the odd-man out once Shane Victorino was activated from the disabled list. “It was something that I definitely wasn’t expecting, but at the same time, when it was brought to my attention, I understood why. I just to go out and play better and this is an opportunity to do that.”

The addition of Nava to Pawtucket’s roster was part of a series of moves made on what is the final game of an eight-game homestand. Joining Nava are infielder Brock Holt and pitcher Matt Barnes, who will make his 2014 debut at 7 p.m. against Rochester.

“We’re looking forward to getting him out there competing again. I know spring training was a bit of a setback for him, but the reports from extended spring was that he’s healthy and doing well,” said Boles, noting the shoulder tenderness that set Barnes back. “He’s a special, live arm.”

Holt wasn’t listed in Friday’s starting lineup. To make room for the three aforementioned players, the PawSox placed pitcher Jeremy Kehrt on the seven-day disabled list (he pitched in relief Thursday), transferred Wilfredo Boscan to the Single-A Lowell roster (he will head to extended spring training in Fort Myers, Fla.) and sent infielder Heiker Meneses to Double-A Portland.
