Police say suspect stabbed dog, owner

April 28, 2014

WOONSOCKET – A man allegedly stabbed his neighbor’s dog Sunday before the animal’s owner intervened and the assailant allegedly turned the knife on him.
Detective Jamie Paone called the injuries to the dog minor, but she said the animal’s owner was stabbed repeatedly and later admitted to Rhode Island Hospital for emergency surgery. He was described as a 25-year-old man who lives at 26 Fairmount St., but police declined to release his name.
Police arrested Clyde Ewing, 36, of 12 Fairmount St. after responding to his house about 8:14 p.m.
Ewing is facing felony charges of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and causing malicious injury to an animal.
Investigators said Ewing told them he got in an argument with his neighbor because he thought the man’s dog was attacking his dog, which is much smaller. Ewing told police he was also concerned because his 9-year-old son was playing in the yard and his neighbor’s dog was unleashed.
