BURRILLVILLLE- Dennis O. Whitman, 70, of Glendale, RI, passed away on April 28, 2014 at the Fatima Hospital in North Providence.
He was the loving husband to Anne (Waterman) Whitman.
He was born in Providence, RI, son of the late Oscar and Ruth (Moore) Whitman.
Dennis owned & operated the former Denny's Mobile Repair Co. and before that he had worked for Main St, Service Station for 21 years. He was a lifelong Burrillville resident. He served in the US Navy on the USS Roosevelt during the Cuban Crisis. He was a member of the Burrillville Ambulance Association and he served on the Burrillville Board of Canvasses for 13 years, he also was Chairman of the Board of the Pascoag Electric Co., and past Commissioner of the Pascoag Fire District., and was a member of the Burrillville Democratic Town Committee.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Deanna Whitman of Warwick RI, Paula Schiffman of Omaha, NE, and Mark Whitman of Harrisville, RI, his grandchildren, Caleigh of Omaha, NE, Cpl. Anthony, a Cpl. in the USMC, of AZ, Ryan of Warwick, Cole of Harrisville, and Madison of Harrisville. He is also survived by four sisters, Phyllis Jaswell of Harrisville, Shirley Richard of Pascoag, Barbara Wilt of Monroeville, PA, and Janice Trinque of Mapleville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Silva.
His funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30am in the Community Baptist Church in Pascoag, RI. Burial will be private. Calling hours and flowers are omitted. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 1496 Victory Hwy., Oakland, RI.
