Shooting, chase ends with arrest

May 1, 2014

WOONSOCKET – A city man is expected to face a litany of criminal charges from multiple communities in District Court today after a wild car pursuit from here to Providence and halfway back again on Thursday.
The episode began with an armed home invasion at 42 Dexter St. and included a carjacking in which the suspect shot someone in the foot, and two car crashes. The last occurred about 1:20 p.m. in Cumberland, at which point the suspect was taken into custody by state police.
He was identified as Michael Ebiwa, 26, of Woonsocket, man whose rap sheet stretches for seven computer screens on the judiciary’s web site.
“I think this is one of those days when you can say that everybody did a great job all around,” said State Police Supt. Col. Steven O’Donnell. “I think the message here is that law enforcement has each other’s back and we’re going to do what we have to do to solve crimes.”
He said Ebiwa would face at least a dozen charges stemming from the home invasion, the shooting in Providence and other offenses. He said it’s possible the shooting could be charged as an attempted murder if police uncover evidence that Ebiwa was aiming for another part of the victim’s body and struck his foot by accident. Minimally, the shooting would be charged as an assault with a deadly weapon.
