BLACKSTONE- Donald J. Thompson, 68, of Blackstone, MA passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the VA Medical Center, Providence with his loving family by his side.
He was the beloved husband for 30 years of Eileen B. (Jordan) Thompson and the loving father of Christopher J. Thompson and his wife, Megan of Boston, MA, and Brigid E. Thompson of Blackstone, MA.
Born in Boston, MA on January 20, 1946, he was the son of the late John R. and Estelle (Bacewic) Thompson.
He leaves his sisters, Barbara Grondahl of Lake Park, GA and Joan Rode of New Bedford, MA, his nephew Spencer Rode, aunts, uncles and cousins. He also was the brother-in-law of the late Thomas Jordan of Bay Shore, NY and his former wife Gerrie and her husband, Bob Boos of Moriches, NY, his sister-in-law Maureen Lindre and her husband, Ray of Brooklyn, NY, his late sister-in-law Catherine and her husband, Frank Weikman of Farmingdale, NY, and his late brother-in-law Michael and his wife April Jordan of Wingdale, NY.
A resident of Blackstone for 19 years formerly of Bellingham, Hyde Park, and Hampton, NH where he graduated from Hampton High School Class of 1963. Donald worked for MediTrust Company as a property inspector and also worked in construction for many years. He also was the sole proprietor of a architectural design and drafting service company for architects, builders and housing manufacturers.
Renowned for being extremely well organized and detail oriented, Donald had for decades utilized his intelligence and will to overcome severe physical adversity. He was a United States Army Vietnam War Veteran and in his community served as committee chariman of Boy Scouts Troop 59 of Blackstone. Donald loved New England, enjoyed his home and his work. Highly devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed.
