MANVILLE- Viola H. (Comire) Griffin, 66, of Manville, RI passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at her home after a brave battle with breast cancer, with her loving family by her side. Vi was the loving wife of Randall Griffin.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Donat and Claire Comire.
Vi had many careers her most rewarding was the CNA for Homefront Healthcare, and her other jobs were a secretary at a Dr. Karanth's office for seven years, hanging wallpaper for 20 years, and a seamstress when she was young. She was a dedicated church goer and heavily involved with Flea Market at the St. James Church in Manville. Her hobbies included playing cards and scrabble with friends and family, doing puzzles and caring for her dogs. Her most recently passion was starting the Railroad Street Food Bank, she was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Paul Comire of Manville, RI, and Marcel Comire of Lake Land, Florida. Vi was the loving godmother of Donna Ayotte, Bruce Descoteaux, Kristine Thurman, Mary Bradley, Scott Pelletier, Katie Gomes, and Marie Zapasnik. Vi is predeceased by her only sister Margarite Whalen.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 9 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. James Church, 33 Division St., Manville. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank at 200 Niantic Avenue Providence, RI 02907.
