WOONSOCKET - Elaine M. (Gariepy) Chauncey, 86, of Woonsocket, died Sunday, May 25, 2014, in her home. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Raoul and Gertrude (Whipple) Gariepy.
Elaine was a manager for Taft-Pierce Credit Union, Fiber Glass Credit Union and Hasbro Credit Union, retiring in 1990. She was previously a telephone operator for the former New England Telephone Company. Elaine was a lifetime member of St. James Episcopal Church. She was a member of the OTTOs, the Telephone Pioneers, the First Tuesday Club, and the Eastern Star. Elaine enjoyed ceramics, traveling, the theatre and time spent with her family and friends.
She leaves three nephews, Lloyd Gariepy and his wife Ann of Woonsocket, Richard Gariepy and his wife Olga of Cumberland and Philip Gariepy of Boston, MA, and her longtime friend and caregiver, Lillian Menard, with whom she lived. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Russell Chauncey and three brothers, Del, Wilfred, and Robert Gariepy.
Her funeral will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 with a service at 10 AM in St. James Episcopal Church, 24 Hamlet Ave. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, from 5-7 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So.
