BOSTON â€” When seven-year-old Tyler Seddon of Burrillville has his life-saving cord blood transplant at Tufts Medical Center early next week, the most critical part of the entire procedure will be the roughly three-week period following the transplant.
â€śDuring those three weeks weâ€™re waiting for the new cells to come in, but thereâ€™s also a high risk for infection,â€ť says Dr. Michael Kelly, a pediatric hematologist/oncologist at Tufts Medical Center and assistant professor at Tufts University School of Medicine.
