Punchless PawSox fall to Charlotte 2-1 despite pitching performances

PAWTUCKET – Despite an early lead and a dominating five-inning performance from Felix Doubront (see related story), the PawSox couldn’t close out Charlotte on Father’s Day.

Left-hander Drake Britton came on in the ninth with Pawtucket guarding a 1-0 lead they had held since their first turn at bat. Britton got the Knights’ Matt Davidson to foul out to first to start the inning, but yielded a ground single to left to Matt Tuiasosopo. The Sox then caught a break as Tyler Saladino botched a sacrifice bunt attempt and fouled out to catcher Christian Vazquez.

With the home team just one out away from victory, however, Charlotte’s number 9-hitter Blake Tekotte turned on a Britton offering and deposited in into the visitors’ bullpen for a two-run home run which proved the difference in the 2-1 final score.
