Mayor endorses trio of incumbent state reps as candidacy declarations begin

June 22, 2014

WOONSOCKET – As the declaration period opens Monday for candidates seeking statewide office, Mayor Lisa-Baldelli Hunt announced that she’s endorsed all of the incumbents in the House of Representatives – Rep. Stephen Casey (D-Dist. 50, Woonsocket), Rep. Michael Morin (D-Dist. 49, Woonsocket) and Rep. Robert Phillips (D-Dist. 51, Woonsocket, Cumberland).

“The three House members have been very responsive to the needs of the city and have been working hard on behalf of our citizens to bring state relief that is so badly needed,” said Mayor Baldelli-Hunt, a member of the House for seven years before being elected mayor last November. “They have been extremely cooperative with me and have delivered very necessary funding to help our citizens.”

Baldelli-Hunt said the state budget enacted with the support of the House lawmakers contains the “final piece of funding” to revitalize World War II Veterans Memorial State Park, a multi-million-dollar project she initiated several years ago. Baldelli-Hunt secured more than $2 million to commence reconstruction of the park as a lawmaker, but the three representatives “made certain the new budget contains the necessary money to allow the project to begin and for the City of Woonsocket to support the park’s operations.”
