BLACKSTONE - Norman R. Landry, Sr., 85, of Blackstone, MA passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 19, 2014 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband for 62 years of Doris J. (Boucher) Landry. Born in Blackstone, MA on September 13, 1928, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Rose E. (Desrosiers) Landry.
He was the loving father of Patricia Landry-Consoletti, Norman R. Landry, Jr. and his wife, Connie, Elaine Belrose and her husband, Joseph, Richard Landry and his wife, Sheila, all of Blackstone, and Elizabeth Azevedo and her husband, Gene of Pascoag, RI. He leaves his cherished grandchildren, Carly and Natalie Consoletti, Holly Landry, Norman Landry, III, Joseph Belrose, III, Tanya Belrose and his great-granddaughter Adalyn M. Landry. He was the brother of Doris Langelier and her husband, Arthur of Blackstone and the late Yvette Cook. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
A resident of Blackstone for most of his life, Norman was a graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy. He was a truck driver retiring from Rosenfeld after 35 years, and also had worked for Varney Brothers in Bellingham and Brown & Sharp in Providence, RI as a machine operator, and at age 16 worked at City Dairy. A Korean War Veteran, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was a communicant of St. Theresa Church and a member of the League of Sacred Heart and was part of the Bishops Fund of the Parish. Norman was very active in the Town of Blackstone, A.K.A "Mayor of Blackstone" and served on the Planning Board for 15 years.
Together with his grandchildren, Norman enjoyed doing his vegetable gardens, driving his own tractors, and loved vacationing at Cape Cod at the Days Cottages in Truro, MA for 50 years. Norman was a kind and giving man helping all who came in contact with him. Devoted to his loving family, he will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 24th at 9:00AM from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Theresa Church, 630 Rathbun St., Blackstone. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone.
