WHITINSVILLE - Mary Ellen "Mame" (Kane) French, 67, formerly of Plummer Ave. died Tues. June 24 at Milford Hospital after a long illness. Her husband Edward A. French died Feb 2, 1994.
She is survived by 3 stepsons, Russell J. French, Thomas E. French, and Steven P. French; a step-daughter Kathleen V. Collins; a sister Christine Pilibosian and her husband Tom of Whitinsville; 2 brothers James P. Kane Jr. and his wife Ann of Douglas, and Jeffrey M. Kane and his companion Deb of Northbridge; several step-grandchildren; niece Victoria and nephews Christopher and Joseph who affectionately referred to her as their fairy Godmother. Born in Whitinsville on April 10, 1947 she was the daughter of James P. "Pucka" Sr. and Julia V. (Kapolka) Kane and resided in Whitinsville most of her life, living in Blackstone the past 12 years.
Mary Ellen owned and operated with her husband, French Door and Window Co. in Upton. She continued to run the business after her husbands sudden death. Previously, she had worked at the Sears store in Whitinsville, Auburn and eventually in the corporate office in Natick. Mame was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Church and their Prayer Shawl Ministry. She enjoyed traveling, trips to the casino, and shopping. She was always devoted to her family, especially her mother, and will be dearly missed.
Her funeral will be held Fri., June 27 from Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 1 Cross St. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thurs., June 26 from 6-8 p.m. and Fri., June 27 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Donations in Mary Ellen's memory may be made to St. Patrick's Prayer Shawl Ministry, PO Box 60, Whitinsville, MA 01588 or Marians of the Immaculate Conception, Eden Hill, Stockbridge, MA 01263.
