Fireworks on!

July 3, 2014

As Hurricane Arthur lumbers up the coast and a rain front approaches from the west, the city will sneak in the traditional Independence Day fireworks display tonight.
There had been some question about whether the show would go on, as other cities in the region reshuffle their celebration schedules on account of the still-evolving forecast.
Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt cleared it up at City Hall with a single word Thursday morning when asked about the status of the previously scheduled display.
"On," she said.
The show begins in World War II Veterans Memorial State Park at 7 p.m. with a musical performance by Jeff Gamache.
The fireworks display begins about 9 p.m. Atlas Pyrotechnics of Joffre, N.H., a company the city has used for some time, was hired to stage the light show.
